Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traore, standing up against insecurity.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of the Burkinabe Transition, carried out a vast reorganization of the army by creating three new military regions, bringing the number of military regions to six, the creation of a new air region, bringing the number of military air regions to two, and the creation of six gendarmerie legions and six groups of forces.

Traoré also signed a decree creating six rapid intervention battalions within the armed forces with the aim of intervening as quickly as possible and as far as possible, focusing on mobility and firepower in the face of any threat to territorial integrity.

This change aims to make the various units of the army more effective for resounding victories over the enemy who has sufficiently plunged the Burkinabe populations into mourning and caused about two million internally displaced people.

Reporting on the security situation in the country, President Traoré questioned the actors of the press on their responsibility in the collection and processing of information in this period of crisis that threatens even the existence of our country. He urged them to be more patriotic and avoid serving the enemy’s cause in their work. « I am not asking you to praise Captain Traoré, but to treat the information in such a way as not to demoralize the fighters at the front, » the President of the Transition told press bosses.

Aware that terrorism is also a war of communication, the Head of State invited journalists to play their part in the reconquest of the territory by working to galvanize the fighting troops at the front.

It should be noted that the security situation has been marked by terrorist attacks since 2015 in several regions of Burkina Faso. These attacks have resulted in many casualties and thousands of internally displaced people. At the end of last October, the government launched the recruitment of 50,000 volunteer fighters for the defense of the homeland to support the army in the fight against terrorism.
