Togo / Food security: under the impetus of President Faure Gnassingbé, concrete initiatives to support agricultural producers
Lomé, Togo – Under the firm directives of President Faure Gnassingbé, the Togolese government is deploying innovative policies and substantial resources to ensure national food security.
A recent initiative marks a significant step in the administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the country’s farmers.
Late last week, a large-scale distribution operation of certified seeds and fertilizers commenced across the Kara, Centrale, Plateaux-Est, and Maritime regions.
This initiative aims to directly support 28,362 agricultural producers. These beneficiaries were selected primarily from producer organizations (OP), planned agricultural development zones (ZAAP), and lowland areas, ensuring a targeted and effective approach.
Farmers will receive input kits containing certified seeds of improved varieties of maize, cowpea, soybean, rice, and other crops.
In addition to seeds, the kits include fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs, enabling farmers to maximize their yields while adopting environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.
This initiative exemplifies the Togolese government’s efforts to achieve lasting food security.
