Marseille in advanced talks to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United

Mason Greenwood is close to joining Olympique de Marseille (OM) as the French club engages in advanced discussions with Manchester United, reports transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Greenwood, who recently returned to United after a successful loan spell at Getafe, where he scored 10 goals and made 6 assists, is no longer wanted at the English club, which is keen to sell him this summer.

Marseille’s main competition, Lazio Rome, has pulled out of the race, allowing OM to negotiate more confidently.

Sources from Corriere dello Sport indicate that the clubs are working on a loan deal with an obligatory purchase option and a percentage of future resale.

While no final agreement has been reached, negotiations are moving in the right direction.

Greenwood is training in England but remains apart from the main squad as he awaits a transfer.

The 22-year-old is open to a move to France, having demonstrated his adaptability last season.

OM’s new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, who led his first training session on Monday, is eager to secure Greenwood’s signing, and the club’s management is making efforts to fulfill his request.

Manchester United has been seeking to part ways with Greenwood since allegations of attempted rape and assault surfaced.

Although he was suspended from the team in August, the case was dropped in February 2023 due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence.
