Togo: The government prioritizes more on the social

The 2023 draft budget was adopted by the Council of Ministers last week. The document attaches particular importance to the social aspect. Once validated, the final document will be sent to the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, then debated in plenary. The law should be passed before December 31. The preliminary draft devotes an amount of 623.4 billion CFA francs to the social sectors, against 522.2 billion in the 2022 budget, an increase of 19.6%. The relative share of social spending in the 2023 project is around 50%.

Séna Alipui, vice-president of the National Assembly (opposition) speaks of a considerable effort, but not enough.

“We are hopeful that during the budget discussion, which promises to be difficult, we can wrest maximum concessions from the government for the people,” he said on Wednesday.

“We will ensure that the budget is a social budget,” he added.
The 2023 budget is projected at 1,957.9 billion CFA francs in resources and expenses, an increase of 4.4% compared to the 1,875.8 billion CFA francs (in the 2022 amending finance law).

The information emerges from the draft finance bill, studied and adopted by the Togolese government, during its last Council of Ministers, on Friday, November 11.
This is exactly the path followed by the authorities.
