Morocco : Automotive Exports Up

Over the past decade, the Moroccan automotive industry has achieved sustained growth. Indeed, as of the end of November 2023, exports from the sector show a significant increase of 30.2%, reaching approximately 13 billion dollars (130.6 billion dirhams).

This growth is attributed to the increase in sales in the construction segment, wiring, and vehicle interiors and seats, as explained by the Foreign Exchange Office.

This annual growth positions the Kingdom of Morocco as a strategic African platform in the production and export of automotive equipment and vehicles.

Morocco is now the leading exporter of cars to the European Union, surpassing China, Japan, and India, while already being the top car producer on the African continent.

Morocco’s position as a production and export platform for automotive equipment and vehicles is reinforced by the presence of foreign groups such as Renault, Snop, GMD, Bamesa, Delphi, Yyazaki, Sews, Saint-Gobin, and more recently Stellantis (formerly PSA).

In 2021, the automotive industry was the country’s leading export sector ($8.4 billion).

To support the momentum in the automotive industry, the Moroccan Acceleration Plan 2014-2020, initiated by former Minister of Industry Moulay Hafid Elalamy, and its new ecosystem approach, has created favorable conditions for the development of sector businesses. This strategy has led to better organization in the automotive industry, with its participants gaining competitiveness, quality, and responsiveness.
