Burkina Faso : The customary chiefs of Sanguié contribute to the peace effort with a sum of 10.842.010 F CFA

In Burkina Faso on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in Réo, a government delegation led by the Minister of State, Minister of Public Service, Labor, and Social Protection, Bassolma Bazié, received a significant contribution from traditional leaders of the Sanguié province, located in the Central-West region of Burkina Faso. This initiative follows the call by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, for an increased but voluntary contribution to the peace effort.

In response to the call from the Head of State and the reminders from the Minister of State, traditional leaders organized a fundraising campaign within their communities. The enthusiasm and popular support enabled the mobilization of an impressive amount of 10.842.010 CFA francs, intended to support the actions of the Transition led by President Ibrahim Traoré in restoring peace in Burkina Faso.

The exemplary gesture of the traditional notabilities of Sanguié was praised by Minister of State Bassolma Bazié, who emphasized the transformation of yesterday’s sadness into a demonstration of commitment, determination, and sacrifice today.

Minister Bassolma Bazié expressed his joy by stating, « I am very happy that the call has been heard. We have capabilities based on values. We urge you not to sleep, to continue invoking the ancestors to prevent the recurrence of past events ».

The Minister of Justice, Human Rights, and Relations with Institutions, Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, interpreted this mobilization as a testimony of the population’s support for the authorities of the Transition in their fight against terrorism, whose successes are already being felt on the ground. Edasso Rodrigue Bayala stated, « We believe that with the people, we can move mountains. This kind of contribution testifies that the people are behind the Transition, its Defense and Security Forces, its VDP, and that the final victory is near». He expressed the hope that this mobilization remains intact until the final victory.

In response to this historic gesture, the governor of the Central-West region, Boubakar Nouhoun Traoré, expressed his satisfaction by describing this contribution as the first in his administrative jurisdiction. He emphasized that this gesture will contribute to saving lives and took the opportunity to provide food to the beneficiaries of the seven Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) from the Sanguié province who fell on the front lines.
