Mali: Suspension of premiums and allowances for members of the National Security Sector Reform Council

With the exception of representatives of the Government and those of the Movements of Inclusiveness, the bonuses and allowances of the members of the National Council for the Reform of the Security Sector are now put on hold. This decision was announced by the Prime Minister, Dr. Choguel K. Maïga, during the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

The role of the National Council for the Reform of the Security Sector is to implement the reform of the security sector, which was initiated on 9 June 2016 through Decree No. 2016-0401/P-RM. The benefits granted to its members on 22 June 2017 are defined by Decree No. 2017-0544/P-RM.

The Prime Minister justified the suspension of bonuses and allowances for the representatives of the Coordination and the Platform because of their unilateral decision to withdraw from activities related to the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation, resulting from the Algiers process.

Moreover, this decision follows their official declaration of war against the State of Mali, as well as the claimed attacks against military camps and positions.
