Burkina Faso: Fighting corruption, KORAG is the strong arm of a firm political will to clean up the nation

Corruption, that persistent scourge which corrodes the foundations of the state and defrauds citizens, remains a major concern in Burkina Faso. However, a new determination is being felt under the leadership of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. At the forefront of this battle, the Korps des Régies d’Avances et de la Gestion (KORAG) embodies the rigor now being deployed to track down wrongdoers and restore integrity in the management of public affairs.

Questioned on the current state of affairs, the spokesperson for KORAG painted an uncompromising yet resolutely action-oriented picture.

The situation, inherited from past practices, remains complex, but the repressive machinery is now “in motion,” in his words.

The body is sparing no effort, conducting targeted and systematic investigations. The goal is twofold: to punish proven offenses exemplarily and, above all, to instill a dissuasive fear in all those who might be tempted to embezzle resources vital for national development.

Regarding the Internal Security Forces, key actors in a time of crisis, KORAG specified that enhanced vigilance measures and strict internal controls are being applied. No sector is above the law.

Clear instructions have been issued to ensure that procedures for procurement, logistics, and fund management are impeccable.

The fight against corruption is presented as an indispensable complement to the fight against terrorism: every diverted franc is a weapon missing from the front lines and a betrayal of the population and soldiers.

On the front of public administration, the assessment is similar. “Bad practices” bribery, nepotism, embezzlement, waste—are in the crosshairs.

KORAG works in synergy with other control structures to simplify procedures, make financial circuits more transparent, and punish abuses. Promoting a culture of accountability and ethics is at the heart of the approach.

The government’s message, carried by institutions like KORAG, is unequivocal: the era of impunity is over. The initiatives being implemented aim not only to punish but, crucially, to deter. They send a solemn warning to all who would engage in these dangerous practices: The Nation, fighting for its survival and future, has no more resources to waste and will no longer accept the silent betrayal of corruption.

The demonstrated firmness is an essential pillar of the rebuilding project championed by the Transition authorities.
