Atlas Lions tame Cameroon, advance to AFCON semis

Host nation Morocco secured a place in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals with a commanding 2-0 victory over Cameroon in Rabat on Friday.

Brahim Díaz broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, making tournament history by becoming only the second player to score in five consecutive AFCON matches. Ismail Saibari sealed the win with a calm finish in the 74th minute, sending a packed Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium into celebration.

The victory exorcised a historical demon for Morocco, marking their first-ever AFCON win against Cameroon after three previous failed attempts. The Atlas Lions dominated proceedings from the outset, showcasing the authority expected of a host nation.

Morocco now awaits the winner of the Algeria-Nigeria quarter-final. In the day’s other match, Senegal edged Mali 1-0 in Tangier to book their semi-final spot.
