Burkina Faso: Presidential initiatives to promote local products

Under the leadership of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the nation has resolutely embarked on a policy of promoting local products and endogenous techniques. This strategic direction aims to strengthen national self-sufficiency, support the local economy, and encourage innovation based on traditional knowledge.

In this vast undertaking, the government places the consumption of “Made in Burkina” products at the heart of its priorities.

This commitment is manifested through public awareness campaigns, public procurement policies favoring local production, and support measures for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Entrepreneurs, particularly in agribusiness, artisanal processing, textiles, and natural cosmetics, now find a favorable environment for their activities to thrive.

The rural sector, the true backbone of the Burkinabe economy, is a primary focus. Women hold a central place in this sector.

As major actors in agricultural production, they are also at the forefront of product transformation, adding value to local raw materials.

Thanks to their commitment, products like shea butter, soumbala, processed cereals, and dried fruits are gaining in quality, presentation, and competitiveness.

The state’s approach is not limited to production. It also encompasses the promotion of local consumption as a lever for development.

By encouraging citizens to prioritize local products, the government creates a virtuous cycle: stimulating demand, strengthening short supply chains, creating jobs, and reducing dependence on imports.

The results are visible: more and more entrepreneurs are emerging, innovating, and contributing to the country’s economic vitality. The youth, encouraged by this favorable climate, are investing in the transformation, marketing, and promotion of local resources.

In acknowledging this strategic vision, it is important to emphasize that the success of this policy also relies on the involvement of every citizen.

To consume locally is to support the national economy, enhance our cultural identity, and build a more sovereign future for Burkina Faso.
