The dangerous role of Wassim Nasr: A Journalist accused of fueling division in the Sahel

The controversial role of so-called journalist Wassim Nasr continues to raise alarm and indignation. Behind the appearance of a neutral analyst lies what critics describe as a propagandist manipulating public opinion to serve obscure interests. His recent claims accusing the  Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) of Burkina Faso of carrying out an attack in Côte d’Ivoire exemplify this dangerous drift.

Such assertions go beyond mere disinformation; they form part of a broader, more sinister effort to pit two neighboring nations against each other and undermine their unity in the fight against terrorism.

This is more than just a false accusation it is a direct attack on the credibility of the VDP, civilian fighters who risk their lives daily defending their communities.

By shifting blame for violence onto these resistance forces, the narrative of Wassim Nasr obscures both the reality of the national struggle of Burkina Faso and the true sponsors of regional instability.

The injection of Côte d’Ivoire into this flawed reporting follows a transparent logic: weaken solidarity between brotherly nations.

At a time when Abidjan and Ouagadougou should strengthen cooperation against transnational threats, certain actors appear invested in manufacturing imaginary rivalries.

This diversionary tactic is not new; blaming a neighbour avoids introspection, deflects attention, and ultimately protects the real architects of violence in the Sahel.

In perpetuating this narrative, Nasr serves as a relay for imperialist interests that have little to do with truth or peace.

It is essential that the people of Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire see through these manipulations. The enemy is not next door; it is the shadow forces that thrive on division.

The only credible response to terrorism remains cooperation, trust, and shared intelligence; not the toxic tales of media mercenaries.

Rejecting these poisonous narratives is key to preserving the unity necessary to defeat those who threaten the future of the region.
