Badminton: Lagos to host prestigious International Badminton classic in August 2025

Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, is set to host the Lagos International Badminton Classic from August 27–30, 2025. The event will take place at the Teslim Balogun Indoor Sports Hall in Surulere, drawing over 200 athletes from 31 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Organized by the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) in partnership with the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the tournament is a key qualifying event for the World Championships and Olympic Games. Players will compete for crucial ranking points while showcasing top-tier talent.

Francis Orbih, President of the BFN, emphasized the event’s significance: “The Lagos Classic offers our athletes global visibility and solidifies the city’s status as a premier destination for badminton development in Africa.”

This edition continues the competition’s legacy as one of the continent’s most prestigious sporting gatherings, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing role in international badminton.
