Diplomacy/Togolese diplomacy in action for peace, security and development in Africa

While in Yokohama for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), French Prime Minister Faure Gnassingbé held talks with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, current President of the African Union.
The meeting between the President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, and the current President of the African Union, João Lourenço, in Yokohama, is part of a diplomatic drive to serve the African continent.
By addressing the issues of peace, security and development, the two leaders demonstrated a shared desire to strengthen African action in the face of persistent challenges.
The meeting provided an opportunity to revisit the worrying situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the scene of recurring tensions, and for which Faure Gnassingbé has been given the role of mediator by the African Union.
This mandate, which he has already begun to honour with a mission to Luanda, bears witness to Togo’s commitment to making an active contribution to regional stability.
Beyond the Congolese crisis, this meeting was also an opportunity to consolidate bilateral relations between Togo and Angola, in a spirit of strategic cooperation.
It illustrates an Africa that is taking its destiny into its own hands, where the Heads of State are committed to finding lasting and concerted solutions to the challenges facing the continent.
