Mali/ Council of Ministers adopts key agricultural program and makes strategic appointments

The Council of Ministers convened on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the Koulouba Palace under the presidency of General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition and Head of State. The session focused on adopting strategic texts, key appointments, and reviewing ministerial updates to advance national development priorities.
A major outcome was the approval of a decree adopting the second phase of the National Program for Proximity Irrigation and its 2025–2029 Action Plan.
This initiative aims to build on earlier achievements by expanding small-scale irrigation systems to boost rural incomes and strengthen food security.
Several high-level appointments were confirmed, including:
- Bérédougou Koné as Director of the Bamako Higher Teacher Training College
- Brigadier General Boubacar Diallo as Ambassador to Rwanda
- Isac Goïta as Head of the Taoussa Development Authority
These appointments reflect the government’s commitment to placing experienced leaders in strategic roles.
Ministers also presented updates on upcoming events, including a National Forum on Justice scheduled for late 2025 and a CAMES workshop in January 2026 to promote scientific research in Francophone Africa.
Other topics included Mali-Guinea cross-border cooperation, support from the diaspora for national defense, and a concerning rise in dengue cases, prompting the President to urge strict adherence to preventive health measures.
