Burkina Faso – Mali: A visit under the seal of friendship, patriotism and Sahelian solidarity

Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, arrived in Bamako on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, for an official working visit at the invitation of his Malian counterpart, Major General Abdoulaye Maïga. He was warmly welcomed upon arrival by the Malian head of government and members of the transitional cabinet.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Youth and Employment, the Minister Delegate for the Budget, and key members of his office.
The visit takes place amid deepening cooperation among members of the Sahel States Alliance (AES), a regional confederation established by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to strengthen shared sovereignty, regional solidarity, and joint action against security and socioeconomic challenges.
A highlight of the visit will be the Burkinabe leader’s participation in the second-anniversary celebration of Mali’s Citizen Brigade, a civic initiative promoting patriotism, social cohesion, and national values.
Similar citizen engagement efforts are underway in Burkina Faso, reflecting parallel approaches to national rebuilding.
During his stay, Prime Minister Ouédraogo is scheduled to meet with Mali’s Transition President, General Assimi Goïta, and hold bilateral talks focused on enhanced cooperation, joint development projects, and political coordination within the AES framework.
The visit underscores the growing strategic and fraternal partnership among Sahel nations as they pursue a shared future rooted in self-determination, active solidarity, and strengthened historical ties.
