Togo: Education as the cornerstone of Togo’s development strategy

In Togo, education has emerged as a strategic pillar for national development, driven by consistent and resolute political will. Under the leadership of the President of the Council, the country is making determined strides toward building a more inclusive, modern, and high-performing education system.
The Education Sector Plan (PSE), valid until 2030, serves as the framework for this ambitious reform.
In 2024, a record investment of 213 billion CFA francs; a 2.7% increase from the previous year was allocated, reflecting the government’s unwavering commitment under President Faure Gnassingbé’s leadership. This funding has already yielded tangible results.
Infrastructure development:
A total of 1,098 new classrooms were built, and 690 others were renovated across preschool, primary, and secondary education levels. This expansion ensures more equitable access to education, particularly in rural areas.
Technical and Vocational training:
The modernization of technical education includes the construction or renovation of 107 classrooms, the equipment of 49 workshops, and the completion of 60 dormitories. These improvements are already enhancing youth employability and fostering better integration into the national economy.
Higher Education and research:
The completion of the WASCAL pedagogical block and the establishment of two new research centers mark significant progress in developing Togo’s next generation of scientific leaders.
Inclusive education:
Targeted programs in the Mô and Bassar prefectures demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring no child is left behind in the country’s educational progress.
Through President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision, education in Togo is becoming the foundation of a strong, equitable, and excellence-driven nation. With continued investment and reform, the country is confidently shaping a future where education empowers all citizens and fuels sustainable development.
