AES: Ouagadougou calls for a mass march to say no to European interference
The people of Burkina Faso are invited to a march and rally this Sunday at 8am in Place de la Nation. The aim is to support Niger and its president in the face of what is described as “unacceptable pressure from the European Union”. Behind the call lies a single voice: that of pan-African solidarity.
The initiative was launched by the transitional authorities. The message is clear: Burkina will not stand idly by whilst a neighbouring, brotherly country is being targeted. Niger, a member of the Sahel States Alliance, is going through a difficult period.
Sanctions, diplomatic pressure, threats. Ouagadougou is responding through the streets. Through the people.
Place de la Nation, the scene of major Burkinabe demonstrations, is expected to see thousands of citizens flock to it. People will come bearing flags, slogans and a shared determination.
The watchword is simple: rejection of foreign interference, unwavering support for our Nigerien brothers.
This is not the first time. Since 2022, Burkina has made sovereignty a daily struggle. Drivingout foreign military bases, rebuilding its army, forging new alliances.
Today, this struggle is being taken abroad. Supporting Niger means defending one’s own conception of independence.
It means reminding the world that the countries of the Sahel are no longer territories to be administered.
The authorities are calling for a mass mobilisation. For history, they say, is made in the streets. Burkina Faso has risen up many times. It will do so again.
