Burkina Faso launches $1.3 billion humanitarian response plan for 2026

The Ministry of Family and Solidarity of Burkina Faso unveiled its 2026 National Humanitarian Response Plan (PNRH) to partners on Tuesday, seeking 769.8 billion FCFA (approximately $1.3 billion) to support over 4.4 million vulnerable people.

The beneficiaries include 2.2 million host community members accommodating displaced persons, 1.3 million internally displaced individuals who fled their homes, more than 902,000 returnees to their original localities, and nearly 42,000 refugees. These figures underscore the scale of humanitarian challenges facing the country.

Minister Passowendé Pélagie Kaboré emphasized the magnitude of the task, stating that supporting these populations requires exceptional financial mobilization and involvement from all stakeholders. “This calls for increased, coordinated, and innovative resource mobilization,” she declared.

The meeting with partners aims to create a space for dialogue and advocacy around identified needs, foster shared understanding of current and future humanitarian issues, and secure financial commitments for plan implementation.

“Every commitment, every contribution, every initiative can make the difference between hope and despair,” the minister told partners.

She also called for strengthened technical support, particularly in coordination, monitoring and evaluation, and innovation, to ensure effective action on the ground.
