Burkina Faso launches historic inter-ministerial dialogue to strengthen Defense, security, finance, and diplomacy coordination

The Burkinabe government kicked off on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the inaugural dialogue sessions bringing together the defense, security, finance, and diplomacy sectors. This unprecedented initiative aims to strengthen coordination among these different pillars of state action.

Over two days, officials from these four strategic ministries will exchange views around a common objective: building a new capacity for strategic defense that is unified and effective.

The stakes are high in a context where Burkina Faso faces major security challenges that require a comprehensive and coherent response.

The creation of this dialogue framework addresses a clearly identified need: the fight against terrorism and the protection of national sovereignty can no longer be handled in silos.

Defense issues are intimately linked to the country’s financial capabilities, its foreign policy, and its internal security strategy.

These exchanges will allow participants to harmonize their visions and design joint working mechanisms.

The stated ambition is to move beyond administrative compartmentalization to develop an integrated approach to strategic questions affecting the nation’s fundamental interests.

This initiative illustrates the  desires of the authorities to further professionalize the management of security and diplomatic affairs.
