Burkina Faso: General mobilization to counter the geopolitical escalation in the Sahel in 2026!
Given the regional geopolitical shift, the year 2026 is shaping up to be a decisive turning point for Burkina Faso and its partners in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). The current situation, marked by escalating tensions and multifaceted threats, demands unprecedented national and regional mobilization. The challenge is no longer solely about countering terrorism, but about preparing for a strategic theater where security concerns, power rivalries, and chronic instability converge.
Reports suggesting the Sahel could become an arena for confrontation between external powers must serve as an alarm bell. This reality requires a collective awakening.
The ongoing effort to densify the national defense apparatus across the entire territory must accelerate.
The objective must now be to continue building a robust defense capability, enhance the operational capacities of the defense forces, and adapt anticipatory measures to durably repel the terrorist threat.

However, this military preparedness cannot be the responsibility of soldiers alone. A general mobilization involves every citizen, every institution, every resource.
It means unconditional support for the defense and security forces, heightened vigilance within communities, and the economic and moral contribution of the entire nation.
This mobilization must also be framed within the solidarity of the AES. The challenges are transnational; the responses must be as well.
Strengthening joint operational capacities, intelligence sharing, and strategic coordination are the pillars of an effective Sahelian defense.
Pushing back terrorism in Burkina Faso contributes to the security of Mali and Niger, and vice versa.
The time has come to transcend our differences and embrace a patriotic and regional resurgence.
Destabilizing actions, whether by non-state armed groups or external geopolitical maneuvering, will be met only by a determined, united Burkina Faso and a resolute Sahelian alliance, steadfast in defending their right to peace and self-determination.
The year 2026 will be one of resilience and resolve. From this day forward, the entire territory must prepare, so that when that moment arrives, we are not taken by surprise, but stand in battle order ready to counter any action that threatens the nation’s peace.
