Football/ Driver sentenced to 21.5 years for Liverpool crowd attack

A Liverpool man has been sentenced to 21 and a half years in prison for driving into a crowd celebrating a football championship, injuring 134 people.

The incident occurred on May 26th when Paul Doyle, 54, plowed his vehicle into fans. While no one was killed, authorities described the outcome as “miraculous.” Doyle pleaded guilty on November 26th to 31 offenses, including dangerous driving and causing serious injury.

Merseyside Police called it one of their largest investigations, involving over 1,500 witnesses. In a statement, they said, “What should have been a day of celebration turned into a day of fear and anguish.”

The Crown Court sentenced Doyle this week, concluding a seven-month case that left a lasting impact on the victims and the city.
