Cameroon: Modernising road transport to enhance regional attractiveness and leadership

At a time when Cameroon is consolidating its economic and institutional foundations, a major reform is emerging in the strategic road transport sector. The establishment of a national accreditation system for carriers and vehicles, driven by a regional project with the support of the World Bank, reflects a clear commitment to structuring and raising the standard of public action.

Beyond a simple regulatory adjustment, this initiative engages the country’s image, affirms the permanence of the state, and reveals its ambition to build a high-performing, secure logistics chain oriented toward regional integration.

This initiative is part of a coherent governance trajectory underpinned by Cameroon’s institutional stability.

It demonstrates a clear political will to organize, professionalize, and sanitize a vital sector that has long been fragmented without abrupt disruption or exclusion.

The choice to entrust a thorough diagnostic to experts, combined with support and training mechanisms, illustrates an open, pragmatic, and responsible style of governance.

The state is not punishing; it is structuring. It is not imposing hastily; it is building for the long term.

At the heart of this dynamic, national leadership plays a central role. The vision driven at the highest level of the state, under the authority of the President of the Republic, rests on a consistent principle: peace and stability as essential conditions for development.

By securing regulations, clarifying standards, and strengthening the capacities of stakeholders, this reform directly contributes to the economic pacification of the sector, reduces conflicts of interest, and enhances the predictability of trade. This is how trust is built—the foundation of lasting attractiveness.

In this context, the Douala-N’Djamena corridor becomes a powerful symbol of Cameroon’s ambition in Central Africa.

By aligning modernized infrastructure with accredited carriers, Cameroon affirms its role as a regional logistics hub, serving trade, pan-African integration, and collective competitiveness.

This approach strengthens economic sovereignty while projecting an image of seriousness and reliability to partners and investors.

The road transport reform embodies continuity, managed innovation, and deliberate stability. It demonstrates that a strong, structured, and pacified state can transform its strategic sectors smoothly, mobilizing its vital forces around a shared vision: a modern, credible Cameroon that drives regional development.
