Burkina Faso: Towards sustainable transformation and enhanced sovereignty under Captain Ibrahim Traoré

Under the governance of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is undergoing a major transformation, having inherited a complex situation marked by growing insecurity and economic dependency. In 2022, the country faced a multidimensional crisis, with terrorist groups controlling about 40% of the territory. This instability, coupled with political and economic challenges, placed the nation in a precarious position. However, through bold reforms under President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is now making a decisive turn toward stability and development.

On the security front, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has deployed an effective offensive strategy against terrorist groups.

By strengthening the capabilities of the Burkinabe Armed Forces, which are now better equipped and organized, several localities have been liberated from terrorist control.

This progress has restored stability to many regions of the country, providing local populations with much-needed respite and enabling the resumption of socio-economic activities in these areas.

The agricultural sector, historically reliant on imports, is also undergoing significant transformation. Driven by President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision, Burkina Faso now aims to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2028.

Investments in local production, particularly in wheat cultivation, are opening new prospects for Burkinabe agriculture.

These reforms seek to reduce food dependency and position the country as a future exporter of agricultural products, thereby strengthening its food sovereignty.

Industrialization and economic diversification are further key pillars of the agenda of  President Ibrahim Traoré.

Several industrial projects are underway, such as the construction of a gold refinery and local processing plants, notably in the pharmaceutical and agro-industrial sectors.

At the same time, Burkina Faso is strengthening its regional ties, particularly through the Alliance of Sahel States, with the goal of fostering cooperation and regional self-sufficiency.

Through these concerted efforts, the country aspires to a resilient future marked by lasting stability and reinforced economic independence.
