Champions League: Manchester City overpower Borussia Dortmund 4-1

Manchester City delivered a commanding performance to defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, with Phil Foden scoring twice and Erling Haaland netting against his former club. The victory strengthens City’s position in the new league phase, moving them to fourth place as they chase automatic qualification for the knockout rounds.

The hosts seized control with two goals in seven first-half minutes. Foden opened the scoring with a precise low finish in the 22nd minute, before Haaland powered home the cutback of Jeremy Doku just before the half-hour mark.

Foden completed his brace with a curled effort in the 57th minute, though Dortmund managed a late consolation through Waldemar Anton.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain unbeaten in their opening four European matches, having collected 10 points from a possible 12.

The performance showcased  the attacking depth of City and continued their strong start to the competition, where they’re positioned to improve upon last season’s round of 16 exit.

Dortmund, now 14th in the standings, showed early promise but ultimately faded against City’s relentless pressure.

The German side will need to regroup quickly as they fight to keep their knockout stage hopes alive in the revamped competition format.
