Economy/ Lomé Autonomous port reinforces its status as a leading african hub

The Autonomous Port  of Lomé(PAL) has further cemented its dominance on the African and global port landscape. According to the prestigious 2025 Lloyd’s List ranking, the Togolese platform has climbed one spot to 92nd place worldwide.

This ascent is backed by solid performance, with the port handling 2.06 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2024 an 8% increase from the previous year.

This sustained growth underscores the port’s pivotal role in West African trade and highlights the ongoing efforts by Togolese authorities to modernize port infrastructure and enhance the nation’s logistical competitiveness.

PAL remains the only port in sub-Saharan Africa to be featured in the global Top 100. It now holds 5th place on the continent, trailing behind Tanger Med (Morocco), Port Said and Alexandria (Egypt), and Durban (South Africa).

This distinction reflects Togo’s strategic vision to establish Lomé as an indispensable logistical hub connecting West Africa to the world.

Under the guidance of the national authorities, Lomé has successfully leveraged its strategic geographic position, high-performance container terminal, and exemplary operational security to attract a growing number of international shipping lines.
