Basketball qualifiers conclude in Kinshasa as Lusaka prepares to host next BAL round

The road to the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) is intensifying as the qualifying tournaments progress. In a recent update, the FIBA Africa Office rescheduled the FIBA Africa Zone 6 (Group E) qualifiers. The event will now be held in Lusaka, Zambia, from October 27 to November 1.

Six teams—Matero Magic (Zambia), Johannesburg Giants (South Africa), Ferroviario da Beira (Mozambique), Basket Hounds (Zimbabwe), Dolphins (Botswana), and Bravehearts (Malawi); will compete for two coveted spots in the Road to BAL Elite 16.

Simultaneously, the Zone 4 qualifiers in Kinshasa have concluded, confirming the first teams to advance. Moanda BB of Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s New Generation secured their places in the West Division Elite 16 after finishing first and second, respectively, in Group C. Moanda BB finished the group stage undefeated.

In the women’s WBLA Zone 4 qualifiers, held concurrently in Kinshasa, the finalists are now set.

Cameroon’s FAP qualified unbeaten, narrowly edging out DR Congo’s CNSS in a thrilling 71-70 match. CNSS claimed the second ticket to the WBLA final phase, which is scheduled to be held in Egypt this December.
