Togo: A remarkable progress towards sustainable human development

Under the leadership of the President of the Council, Faure GnassingbĂ©, Togo has seen marked progress in improving its Human Development Index (HDI), placing the country among nations with medium human development. According to the latest 2025 report from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Togo’s HDI reached 0.571, up from 0.567 the previous year.

This figure now exceeds the 0.550 threshold, marking the country’s entry into a new category: medium human development.

Togo now ranks 161st globally, consolidating its 4th place within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This progress is the result of ambitious reforms implemented by the Togolese government, focused on improving three key sectors: health, education, and gross national income per capita.

The strategy of President Faure Gnassingbé strategy has centered on placing people at the heart of national priorities, thereby improving access to essential services and creating economic opportunities. The results are clear, as seen in the improvement of social and economic indicators.

The Togolese government has also invested in modernizing social infrastructure, facilitating access to education for younger generations and ensuring quality healthcare for a growing population.

These advances have had a direct impact on the well-being of Togolese citizens, propelling the country toward greater stability and prosperity.

In its dynamic improvement, Togo continues its efforts to move closer to international human development standards.

The 2025 UNDP report emphasizes that, although many challenges remain, the country has managed to overcome some of the greatest obstacles in sustainable development.

This promising trajectory is based on a clear vision and effective reforms that continue to transform the lives of citizens.
