Mali vows to secure fuel supply after attacks, PM declares “We will fetch fuel with spoons if needed”

The Prime Minister of Mali, General Abdoulaye Maïga, met with Ibrahim Touré, representative of the Malian Association of Petroleum Professionals, following attacks on fuel tankers along the Kayes-Bamako corridor. The meeting aimed to outline urgent measures to secure the country’s energy supply chain.

Despite severe incidents, Touré assured that Mali’s fuel supply would continue uninterrupted, thanks to active state support. This commitment reflects the shared resolve of economic operators and authorities not to yield to armed groups seeking to destabilize the nation.

The Head of Government announced large-scale responses to drastically enhance security along strategic transport routes.

He also emphasized the need for transporters and citizens to strictly adhere to directives from the armed and security forces, which remain the guarantors of national stability and sovereignty.

In a powerful and symbolic statement, the Prime Minister declared: “Even if we have to go fetch our fuel on foot with spoons, we will do it.” This phrase, resonating as a cry of resilience, captures the government’s unwavering determination.

The Malian people are called to stand united behind their authorities to thwart enemy maneuvers and continue, with resolve, building a strong and prosperous nation.
