Mali: Kidal, Kayes… superiority through strategy and the operational power of the FAMA

In a Sahelian context marked by an asymmetrical war with shifting contours, Mali is forcefully asserting its sovereignty and its capacity to respond. From 1 to 12 September 2025, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) demonstrated strategic mastery and operational power that are redefining the security balance within the Alliance of Sahel States.
In Kayes, the military response to coordinated attacks on economic routes was swift and decisive.
The air strike on 9 September in Mousafa, which neutralised an enemy logistics base, illustrates the FAMa’s tactical precision.
The liberation of National Police officers in Timbuktu, followed by their welcome by Army General Assimi Goïta, embodies the republican promise: that of a protective state, uncompromisingly committed to the security of its citizens.
In Kidal, the shooting down of a spy drone on 11 September reveals another dimension of the conflict: the war is becoming technological.
Faced with this development, the FAMa are adapting their resources, integrating jamming and interception systems that reinforce their superiority on the ground.
These operations mark a turning point. They demonstrate the total commitment of the Malian forces and the strategic vision of President Assimi Goïta.
In a Sahel undergoing reconstruction, Mali is positioning itself as a central player, determined to defend its territory and guarantee the security of its people, whatever the cost.
