Record-breaking chef attempts world’s largest Jollof rice in Lagos

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci drew massive crowds in Lagos as she embarked on her latest Guinness World Record attempt: creating the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The 28-year-old Nigerian food influencer, who previously held the marathon cooking record in 2023 with 93 hours and 11 minutes of continuous cooking, spent a full year planning this ambitious culinary feat.
Her colossal recipe required extraordinary quantities: 4,000kg of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, and 600kg of onions. The ingredients were combined in a specially manufactured steel pot capable of holding 23,000 litres.
The massive cooking vessel took a 300-person culinary team two months to construct. During the hours-long cooking process, Baci worked alongside assistants using oversized wooden spatulas to stir the enormous dish.
Following completion, the gigantic portion of Nigeria’s beloved rice dish traditionally prepared with tomato sauce and often served with meat or seafood was distributed among the thousands of spectators who gathered to witness the attempt.
Guinness World Records must now verify the evidence before officially recognizing the achievement.
Baci first gained national prominence by winning a jollof rice competition in 2021 before achieving international fame with her cooking marathon record.
