Burkina Faso: National conference on decentralisation, focusing on strengthening local governance

The National Conference on Decentralisation opened on Wednesday in Ouagadougou, chaired by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, with the theme: “What kind of decentralisation for local development and a better contribution to securing the territory?”

Several members of the government took part in the ceremony, including the Minister of Infrastructure and Accessibility, Adama Luc SORGHO, who emphasised the importance of infrastructure and opening up territories for the success of the process.

The Prime Minister called for decentralisation to be adapted to the current realities of Burkina Faso and for concrete proposals to be formulated to strengthen the resilience of local authorities and local governance.

The meeting, which will continue until 12 September, is expected to result in major recommendations for a more inclusive and profound reform of decentralisation policy.
