Burkina Faso reforms diplomatic posting and compensation framework

The government of Burkina Faso has adopted a decree reforming the assignment and residency framework for agents posted abroad in Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts (MDPC). Approved during a Cabinet meeting, this decision aims to standardize working conditions and modernize the compensation system for these personnel.

The new regulation introduces a salary system based on maximum indices per function, providing greater transparency and coherence in the management of diplomatic careers.

This reform reflects a commitment to rationalize public expenditure while improving the effectiveness of the foreign service.

Additionally, the decree stipulates that expenses related to the families of agents assigned or appointed to MDPCs will no longer be covered by the state budget.

This measure reinforces a principle of individual responsibility, refocusing public resources on the essential missions of diplomatic and consular administration.

This reform is part of the broader policy of good governance and public finance management advocated by the authorities under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso.

It also aims to optimize Burkina Faso’s diplomatic efforts by emphasizing performance and fiscal discipline.
