Environment/ Togo launches process for seventh national biodiversity report

On August 29, 2025, Togo officially initiated the development of its seventh national report on biodiversity. The document will cover the period from 2021 to 2025 and provide a comprehensive assessment of the country’s conservation efforts, challenges, and future priorities.

This initiative aligns with Togo’s commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which requires member states to regularly submit national reports.

The upcoming evaluation will help identify gaps and propose corrective measures to better align national policies with global biodiversity protection targets for 2030.

The drafting process involves a wide range of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, other sectoral ministries, specialized institutions, and technical and financial partners.

This inclusive approach aims to integrate environmental concerns more effectively into all areas of public policy.

In the long term, Togo aims to restore and conserve its terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems by 2050 while promoting their sustainable use.

This strategic framework seeks to preserve the country’s natural heritage, reduce biodiversity loss, and strengthen resilience to climate change.

The report will also serve as a key reference for shaping national environmental policies and will help attract international technical and financial support.

By drafting this seventh national report, Togo reaffirms its commitment to placing biodiversity at the heart of its sustainable development agenda and contributing actively to global conservation efforts.
