Niger: General Abdourahamane Tiani sets the course for a country that stands tall and determined after two years of asserting its sovereignty

On the occasion of the second anniversary of the establishment of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), Niger’s Transitional President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, delivered a firm, clear, and resolutely patriotic address to the nation. In a region marked by tension, the Head of State defended the events of July 26, 2023, as a necessary and rational break—one aimed at asserting Niger’s sovereignty both politically and economically.
General Tiani openly denounced the orchestrated maneuvers against Niger, describing them as a form of “programmed isolation” driven by foreign powers and their local proxies. Yet, rather than weakening the country, these pressures have only strengthened Niger’s resolve to forge an independent path in solidarity with the other member states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), united in an irreversible movement toward liberation.
On the institutional front, the CNSP’s two-year track record is significant. The President highlighted the creation of key sovereign institutions such as the State Court, the Court of Auditors, and the Consultative Council for the Refoundation—now a legislative backbone of the Transition. These developments reflect a strong commitment to restoring state authority, strengthening public accountability, and building governance centered on the common good.
Acknowledging the economic and social hardships facing the population, General Tiani spoke with candor, urging Nigeriens to stay focused on the collective goals of freedom, security, and prosperity. He emphasized that the path to emancipation may be painful, but it is the only path compatible with the dignity and sovereignty of the Nigerien people.
His message was not that of a crisis manager, but of a state-builder—deeply convinced that history is being made in Niamey, with freedom as its compass, Sahelian integration as its horizon, and unshakable belief in regained sovereignty as its driving force.
