Alino Faso case: Burkinabe civil society demands justice in front of the Ivory Coast Embassy

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the National Coordination of Civic Watch Associations (CNAVC) organized a peaceful march in Ouagadougou, heading toward the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire. The march aimed to express the public’s deep outrage over the tragic and controversial death of Burkinabe activist Alain Christophe Traoré, widely known as Alino Faso.

The demonstrators, who began their march at the Thomas Sankara Memorial, wore white clothing—a symbol of both peace and determination in the face of what they see as a clear injustice. Throughout the march, participants called for truth, transparency, and respect for Burkina Faso’s sovereignty in handling this sensitive matter.

Through this civic action, the CNAVC reaffirmed its support for the official position of the Burkinabe government, which is demanding clear explanations regarding the circumstances of Alino Faso’s death, which occurred while in custody at a gendarmerie training school in Côte d’Ivoire. The silence and lack of communication from Ivorian authorities have only intensified the anger and confusion among the Burkinabe public.

The march organizers submitted a memorandum to the Ivorian embassy, calling for an independent investigation, the immediate return of the body to the activist’s family, and an official apology from Ivorian authorities for what they describe as the inhumane and opaque treatment of a Burkinabe citizen on foreign soil.
