Sport/FIFA: Regional office inaugurated in Rabat on the sidelines of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final

The FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) is preparing to inaugurate its first regional office in North Africa, a strategic event set to take place this Saturday, July 26, in Rabat. The official opening will be presided over by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Located near the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, this new office represents a major milestone in FIFA’s global expansion strategy across the African continent. It aims to enhance coordination, support national football federations, and foster the development of sports projects in North Africa.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on the same day as the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations – Morocco, scheduled for 9:00 p.m. at the Rabat Olympic Stadium. This double event will bring together major global football figures as well as representatives from several African football federations, all gathered to witness this historic moment for football on the continent.

Gianni Infantino arrived in Morocco on July 19 for a “private visit” and was welcomed by Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and member of the FIFA Council, along with other federation officials. The creation of this regional office was part of a memorandum of understanding signed last December in Marrakech, on the sidelines of the CAF Awards ceremony, in the presence of Gianni Infantino, Fouzi Lekjaa, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, and Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football.

With this inauguration, FIFA confirms its strategic choice of Rabat as a regional football hub, echoing Morocco’s growing role as a leading force in both African and global sports.
