AES Games: Niger dominates at Taekwondo

The Nigerien delegation made a stunning statement in taekwondo at the AES Games, clinching four out of five possible gold medals at the Palais des Sports.

Nigerien athletes swept the finals in four weight categories: women’s -44kg and -55kg, and men’s -55kg and -63kg though they shared the men’s -63kg gold with Burkina Faso.

The Burkinabe “Étalons” proved equally ruthless, winning both of their contested finals.

Mali, despite reaching four finals (women’s -44kg, -49kg, -55kg, and men’s -55kg), had to settle for four silver medals and one bronze.

In the overall standings, Niger leads with 4 golds and 1 bronze, followed by Burkina Faso (2 golds, 3 bronzes) and Mali (4 silvers, 1 bronze). A spectacular debut for taekwondo at the historic AES Games!
