Togo leads the charge in green mobility and ecological transition

In a global context of climate change action, Togo is positioning itself at the forefront of the ecological transition. Under the visionary leadership of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, the country is intensifying its efforts toward sustainable development, with a particular focus on modernizing the transport sector a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

This commitment is embodied in the Support Project for the Transition to Electric Mobility in Togo (PSTMET), launched with the backing of key partners.

As part of an innovative pilot phase, a fleet of electric motorcycles will soon be deployed for use by public administration couriers, reflecting a strong political will to green public sector mobility.

This initiative aligns with the government’s 2020-2025 roadmap, specifically Program 36 (P36) on Green Mobility, which aims to ensure that electric vehicles account for 3% of annual new vehicle sales by 2025.

Through bold fiscal incentives including a 100% tax exemption on new electric vehicle imports and a 90% reduction for hybrids the Togolese government is paving the way for widespread clean mobility adoption.

President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision goes beyond merely reducing emissions. It reflects a deep commitment to public health, improved air quality, and the well-being of citizens.

Through these concrete actions, Togo is reaffirming its leadership in West Africa, proving that an environmentally friendly future is not only possible but already in motion.

The path is clear: a modern, sustainable Togo, resolutely forward-looking and guided by the responsible and pan-African vision of its President.
