Togo unveils national energy pact at London Summit, aims for universal electricity access by 2030

At a high-level energy meeting in London, part of the “Mission 300” initiative led by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank, Togo officially presented its national energy compact, committing to universal electricity access by 2030.
Alongside four other African nations Burundi, Ghana, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe; Togo outlined its electrification strategy, marking a key step in its push to accelerate energy access.
The plan aligns with the government’s broader energy policy, leveraging grid expansion, off-grid solar solutions, and modernization of power generation.
With national coverage expected to reach 70% by the end of 2024, Togo is pursuing a mixed approach, combining public funding, private investment, and multilateral partnerships.
The London meeting served as a platform to explore new financing mechanisms and attract private capital for electrification projects.
As Africa grapples with an energy crisis nearly 80% of the continent still lacks reliable electricity Togo’s strategy underscores the belief that development is impossible without energy access.
By strengthening partnerships with donors and investors, the West African nation aims to fast-track its energy ambitions and boost economic growth.
