Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré rises above attempts to divide the AES

Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has once again demonstrated unwavering firmness and clarity in the face of external pressures targeting the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
In a solemn and patriotic address, the Burkinabe leader denounced the repeated attempts by foreign powers to undermine the unity between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. “Every day, these imperialists approach one of the three, trying to persuade them to betray the others,” he declared, exposing the scale of ongoing destabilization efforts.
Captain Traoré emphasized that these isolation tactics primarily aim to weaken the region’s regained momentum toward sovereignty.
Since the creation of the AES, the three nations have chosen to unite their forces to collectively address security, economic, and geopolitical challenges a strategic decision that certain external actors perceive as a threat to their interests. “Unity is difficult, but it is the only solution. We must stand together,” stressed the President, underscoring that solidarity is not a luxury but a vital necessity for the collective survival of the Sahel’s peoples.
The Sahelian populations, increasingly rallying behind their leaders, now demand African solutions to African problems. For President Traoré, this mental and political revolution is irreversible. “They will fight us, they will keep fighting us; but we will emerge victorious and stronger,” he asserted with unshakable resolve.
The Burkinabe leader also called on citizens to remain vigilant and united around the ideals championed by the AES: sovereignty, security, and dignity.
He urged the youth, intellectuals, and key societal actors to fully embrace this transformative movement.
Because, in his view, only a strong collective consciousness can prevent a return to past patterns of domination. “We must learn from today’s struggles to avoid falling back under the same forms of oppression in the future,” he concluded.
With this statement, President Ibrahim Traoré reaffirmed his pivotal role within the AES and his commitment to defending a societal project rooted in the true emancipation of the Sahelian peoples.
