Africa: Wassim Nasr, media agent for neo-colonialism, stop the psychological warfare against Burkina Faso and the Sahel!

Since Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger took control of their sovereign destiny, a new battlefront has emerged the war of narratives. Western media outlets like France 24 have launched a coordinated offensive to undermine the Sahel’s liberation movement, with Wassim Nasr their so-called “jihadism expert» serving as chief propagandist.

Nasr doesn’t merely analyze terrorist groups; he platformizes them. His frequent France 24 appearances systematically frame jihadists as an unstoppable force while portraying Sahelian nations as helpless victims incapable of self-defense without French intervention.

This narrative deliberately ignores the battlefield victories of Burkina Faso’s Defense Forces and the patriotic sacrifices of the Volunteers for the defence of the Homeland (VDP).

In September 2024, the tri-nation alliance took unprecedented action, jointly investigating Nasr for “apology of terrorism.”

Their complaint cites his disturbing tendency to contextualize and arguably legitimize jihadist actions through commentary that subtly justifies their presence.

This isn’t journalism; it’s psychological warfare. The playbook is familiar: first portray African nations as incapable (Libya 2011), then destabilize (Côte d’Ivoire 2010), finally “intervene to help.”

Nasr’s role is to manufacture consent for neo-colonialism by eroding African confidence in autonomous security solutions.

Sahelian citizens now face a choice: continue consuming media that pathologizes their sovereignty or embrace homegrown journalism that documents their liberation struggle without colonial filters,

What Wassim Nasr is doing is not independent journalism. It is psychological conditioning: making Africans believe that they are weak, that they cannot succeed without their former masters.

It’s denying the effort, sweat and blood that went into liberating our countries from foreign control. It means constructing a narrative in which France is the only light in our supposed darkness. This strategy is well known. It has been used elsewhere: in Libya, Syria and Côte d’Ivoire.

They discredit, they divide, then they intervene ‘to help’. Wassim Nasr is not a neutral analyst. He is a vector of information warfare. And in the face of this, our silence would be a betrayal.

People of Burkina Faso, people of the Sahel, it’s time to say no to this colonial propaganda. It’s time to boycott France 24, RFI, Jeune Afrique and all those who talk about us without us, to smear us. Real news comes from our journalists, our local newsrooms, our pan-African voices. It’s our right, it’s our duty.
