Rayane Cherki chooses France over Algeria in international career decision

The international future of 21-year-old attacking midfielder Rayane Cherki has been settled after France manager Didier Deschamps included him in Les Bleus’ squad for the upcoming Nations League Final Four.

This selection ends years of speculation about whether the former Lyon prodigy would represent Algeria, where he had been frequently linked through his family heritage.

Cherki, currently playing in Ligue 1, had remained eligible for both nations but had never committed publicly to the Fennecs despite Algeria’s persistent interest. His inclusion in France’s senior squad confirms his decision to pursue his international career with the 2018 World Cup winners rather than the African champions.

The talented playmaker’s call-up rewards his improved club form this season and suggests Deschamps views him as part of France’s future. For Algerian fans, it marks the end of hopes to see one of Europe’s promising young talents strengthen their national team.
