Burkina Faso/Patriotic commitment and civic participation: President Ibrahim TROARE’s appeal meets with a favourable response

During the official launch of the second edition of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Civic Participation on October 2, President Ibrahim Traoré called on every citizen to take part in keeping their surroundings clean and healthy. His message was clear: maintaining a clean environment not only enhances the country’s image but also protects against preventable diseases.

“Let us ensure that our healthcare facilities, homes, neighborhoods, villages, towns, workplaces, places of worship, and cemeteries remain clean at all times. This too is patriotism. There’s no need to complicate it,” he stated.

Since the launch of these days of engagement, sanitation efforts and public clean-up initiatives have gained momentum across Burkina Faso. From schools and workplaces to neighborhoods, people of all ages, both men and women, have eagerly taken up the challenge.

The widespread participation reflects a shared commitment to improving living conditions in their communities.

In addition to sanitation activities, many groups are planting trees, an effort that not only beautifies public spaces but also contributes to environmental protection and climate change mitigation.

Observers have noted that these actions signal a growing awareness and a patriotic drive among the population, responding to the president’s call to action.

The initiative also serves as a practical way to instill values of patriotism and civic duty in younger generations.

By involving citizens directly in these efforts, the government is fostering a sense of collective responsibility, aligning with the vision of building a future Burkina Faso that truly reflects the aspirations of its people.
