Burkina Faso / Food self-sufficiency: President Ibrahim Traoré injects 80 billion to support farmers and develop strategic crops

President Ibrahim Traoré is resolutely committed to making Burkina Faso a model of food self-sufficiency. With a firm belief in agriculture as a key driver of economic independence, he has introduced a bold initiative to support farmers and diversify crop production.

In 2024, his government allocated over 80 billion CFA francs to this expansive project, aimed at boosting agricultural output while offering farmers free access to the resources and equipment they need.

This initiative not only strengthens the capabilities of local farmers but also includes the development of more than 2,500 hectares of land for strategic crops such as cocoa, coffee, and bananas. These crops were chosen for their economic potential and their role in enhancing food security.

The diversification of agricultural production will reduce reliance on food imports, while the newly developed lands will provide local farmers with fresh opportunities for income and growth.

Through these measures, President Traoré demonstrates his resolve to elevate agriculture as a cornerstone of the national economy.

By empowering farmers and constructing modern infrastructure, he is creating the conditions for a sustainable, productive, and resilient agricultural sector.

His strategy not only aims to achieve food self-sufficiency for Burkina Faso but also positions the country as a leading agricultural producer in West Africa.

President Ibrahim Traoré’s initiatives show that his commitment to agricultural development goes beyond rhetoric—it’s a reality backed by substantial investments and a forward-looking vision for the nation’s future.
