Burkina-Faso: The President of the Transitional Parliament Ousmane Bougouma in Bamako.

The President of the Burkinabe Parliament, Ousmane Bougouma, went to Bamako, the Malian capital, where he will meet the Head of State, Colonel Assimi Goïta and participate in the closing session of the National Council of the Malian Transition.

The president of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (TLA), Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, accompanied by a delegation of deputies, arrived on Wednesday 14 December in Bamako, for a 72-hour visit, the Parliament reported.

Welcomed at the airport by his counterpart, the President of the National Council of Transition, Colonel Malick Diaw, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma who chose Mali for his first official visit, came to consolidate relations between the two countries.

With a view to “…strengthening the ties of friendship between the two peoples who share a common history and geography”, Dr Bougouma, in addition to meeting the Malian Head of State, will also exchange with the Burkinabe diaspora.

He will also take part in the closing of the parliamentary session of the National Transition Council (CNT).

This trip of the president of the ALT to Bamako still fuels rumours of a “cooperation with Moscow”.

But apart from the rumours, it seems more than obvious that the two countries want to combine their efforts to counter the terrorist threat in the region.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré also made his first foreign visit to Bamako, where he discussed the fight against terrorism with Colonel Assimi Goïta.

Dr Ousmane Bougouma, 41, was a professor of private law at the Thomas Sankara University before his appointment as head of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) on 11 September 2022, and had already served in the ALT from March to September 2022, under the former president.
