Rigobert Song takes responsibility as Cameroon faces uphill Battle after Senegal defeat in AFCON

«I won’t blame anyone; I will take responsibility. My players did what they could, but we have to recognize that Senegal was better than us. Yes, we have to admit it. They were strong, a well-drilled and well-organized team», lamented Rigobert Song, the coach of Cameroon, as he addressed the media in the aftermath of his team’s 3-1 defeat to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Senegal’s resounding victory not only secured their passage to the round of 16 with two consecutive wins but also showcased their prowess on the field.

The Teranga Lions displayed a cohesive and dominant performance, leaving Cameroon struggling to match their intensity and coordination.

Despite the setback, Song remained resilient, emphasizing that his team would take on the responsibility for the defeat.

With only 1 point in two matches, Cameroon faces a challenging path to secure a spot in the knockout stages.

The coach expressed hope and positivity regarding their prospects in the remaining group-stage match against Gambia.

«I remain positive. I think today, there is still one more match, and there will be no more calculations. I believe we will stay in this competition. Nothing is lost yet. There is still hope. The last match will be a final for us because we have nothing to lose», affirmed Rigobert  Song.

The upcoming clash against Gambia presents a crucial opportunity for redemption and qualification.

Cameroon must regroup, reassess their strategies, and approach the match with determination to overcome the odds and advance in the tournament.
