Javier Tebas secures uncontested re-election as La Liga President

Javier Tebas has been re-elected for a fourth consecutive term as the president of La Liga, running unopposed as the sole candidate for his own succession. Tebas’ re-election, at the age of 61, was confirmed in a statement by La Liga released this Tuesday.

Despite his resignation a few weeks prior, he was reinstated in his role without the need for an extraordinary General Assembly, as stated in the official announcement.

Javier Tebas first assumed the presidency of La Liga in April 2013, then was re-elected in October 2016 and December 2019.

A former president of Huesca, Tebas is renowned for instigating a major reform of the Spanish football television rights system in 2015, centralizing their commercialization, a groundbreaking approach in Spain where each club had previously negotiated individually with television channels.

During his tenure, Tebas has also distinguished himself by firmly opposing the Super League project, currently supported solely by Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

He has also criticized the economic models of clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City, asserting that they disrupt the market balance
