Burkina-Faso / Operationalisation of the AES: Ministers for Foreign Affairs and experts meet Mali’s Prime Minister

A meeting on the operationalisation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) brought together foreign affairs ministers and experts from Burkina-Faso, Niger and Mali in the Malian capital, Bamako, on the evening of 30 November. The meeting was hosted by the Prime Minister of Mali, Dr Choguel Kokalla MAIGA.

The meeting, whose objective is to adopt the institutional architecture that will serve as a guideline for the operationalisation of the ESA, was at the heart of the courtesy visit to the Malian Head of Government.

The three ESA ministers reported on the meeting to the Prime Minister of Mali, Dr Choguel Kokalla MAIGA.

During the meeting, the ministers informed the Head of the Malian government of the institutional architecture proposed to the ESA authorities.

The document submitted basically concerns the fight against terrorism in order to re-establish security in the area.

It also takes into account diplomatic, political, economic and development issues.

An organisational chart for setting up the ESA bodies was also proposed by the ministers, who then sought the advice and guidance of the Prime Minister of Mali to incorporate into the final document.

In his turn, Dr Choguel Kokalla MAIGA took the opportunity to thank and congratulate his hosts for the quality of the work that had led to the results presented.

Believing that the ministers and experts are architects whose work will mark the history of African countries, particularly those of the AES, the Malian Prime Minister invited the ministers to cultivate cohesion, solidarity and attachment to the values of their respective nations, and to show resilience in the face of the actions of certain States resistant to this noble and historic project.

During the visit, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mrs Olivia Ragnaghnèwendé ROUAMBA, also conveyed greetings from her counterpart in Burkina-Faso, Mr Apollinaire Joachimson KYELEM de Tambèla.
