Burkina-Faso: strengthening of Ouaga-Bamako cooperation to fight terrorism

The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has a great dream of sub-regional integration, perceived as the ideal way. In this month of November 2022, Burkina-Faso and Mali, which share a long border, plan to pool their efforts and resources to face the terrorism that is their common enemy. It is in this perspective that the Burkinabe Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, made a working visit to Bamako in the Republic of Mali.

This visit is the very first made by the strong man of Burkina Faso since his seizure of power on October 2, 2022. He is accompanied by the Minister of State, Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Colonel Major Kassoum Coulibaly and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Colonel Major David Kabré.

Out of sight, the two personalities (Traoré and Goïta), havemplified exchanges with their respective delegations for more than 3 hours. To this end, Captain Ibrahim Traoré said that the objective of the visit is to find a way to provide a solution for the fight against terrorism: “the most important thing for us, in the current situation, is the security challenge. We discussed how to strengthen our military cooperation and be able to better conduct our operations to secure our populations”.

Moreover, President Ibrahim Traoré had also appealed to the Burkinabe, Malian and Sahelian populations, to “be much more supportive, to shake hands and to remain united in this struggle”.

Practically, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Mali have decided to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in security and defence. In short, this visit by President Traoré aims to strengthen the Ouagadougou-Bamako axis and intensify the fight against armed terrorist groups that mourn both nations.
