Togo: The Ministry of Fisheries denies the disappearance of fishermen in a shipwreck

In an official announcement, the Minister of Fisheries denied reports that five fishermen had disappeared in a tragic shipwreck.

The Minister of Fisheries Edem Kokou Tengué assured that no one was missing and that rescue teams had acted quickly to ensure the safety of all the fishermen involved in the incident.

According to Minister Tengué, although there was no loss of life, the incident did result in some injuries, which were then evacuated to hospitals for appropriate medical treatment.

The rapid response of the emergency teams was crucial in preventing any major tragedy.

The incident appears to have involved several pirogues, which are boats traditionally used by local fishermen.

The damage caused to the pirogues was considerable, and 11 people were reported injured.

The authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and to examine the reasons why several pirogues were seriously damaged.

Minister Tengué also reassured the fishing community and coastal residents that measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He emphasised the importance of safety at sea and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that fishermen can ply their trade in complete safety.
